Choose the Right Type of Insurance For You - there are 3 types
Third Party Only - Covers you if someone claims against you
Third Party Fire & Theft - Covers you if someone claims against you and if your car is stolen or damaged by Fire
Comprehensive - Covers you if someone claims against you, if your car is stolen or damaged by Fire and damage to your own car and you.
Each insurance company has different variations of these types of cover but the basic principles are the same.
If you can afford it we would advise you choose 'Comprehensive' as the other two types can leave you without a car in you cannot afford to get it repaired.
TIP - Check when you get quotes to see what the difference is between the cost of these 3 types of cover. If you have a low value car and there is a good saving with a 'Third Party' quote it is worth seriously considering if the amount you save could go towards reparing the car if you had an acccident which was your fault.

Choose the Right Excess
An 'Excess' is the amount you will have to pay, if you make a claim, before the insurance company will make a payment. So if your excess is £200 and the cost of the claim is £1,000. You will pay £200 and the insurance company £800.
Please note the excess always applies to all claims and is paid first. So, if your claim is only £250 and your excess is £200. You will pay £200 and the insurance company £50.
For Young Drivers, Insurance Companies often include an excess as part of their standard policy, always worth checking this.
When you get your quotes you will see an option to choose the size of the excess you wish to have. The higher the excesss the lower the premium.
However, once the excess gets to a certain size the premium does not reduce as much as the excess increases.
You need to decide what is the right level of excess for you. To do this you need to think about what you could afford to pay if you had an accident and had to get your car back on the road and at the same time consider how much you can save on your car insurance premium by having a higher excess.
As a very rough guide the saving on the premium is not as marked once the excess gets above £500.
TIP - If £500 is an amount you could afford (borrow) if you had an accident, which was your fault, it may be a good starting point to consider as the right excess for you?

Be Accurate!
Because, getting car insurance quotes isn't the most exciting thing to do people tend to rush and not always give the most accurate of answers and tend to err of the side of caution if they are not sure.
For example when asked to estimate their annual mileage some people estimate far higher then their actual mileage and this can produce a slightly higher quote than necessary.
TIP - Please try not to rush when getting your quotes and be as accurate as possible with your answers.

Annual or Monthly Payment
If you can afford to make one annual payment this is the way to go.
However, if your budget means you have to pay monthly then look very carefully at your quotes and make sure you are comparing 'like with like'.
We take this into account for the BEST BUY.

Try This!
When you are getting your quotes try adding someone who is an experienced driver age 30 and above as a 'named driver'. This can sometimes get lower quotes.
